Subject: It's time to dump the duties

Dear MP,

I live in your riding.

Raising the de minimis threshold would bring direct economic benefit to Canadian consumers and businesses and bring Canada in line with the online economies of other industrialized countries.

Please give middle class Canadians and small businesses relief from high online import prices. Our de minimis level hasn't changed in 30 years. The U.S. limit is 40x higher than Canada's and the EU limit for duty is more than 10x higher than ours.

Sincerely,

Canadians who spend more than $20 shopping online outside of Canada are paying the government up to 30% duty and tax penalties on their purchases.

Raising the de minimis threshold to $200 CAD would bring direct economic benefits to Canadian consumers and businesses and bring Canada in line with the online economies of other industrialized countries.
